These common medium-sized waterbirds can be found throughout the Philippines inhabiting flooded grasslands, wetlands, forest edges, and mangroves. They have an omnivorous diet consisting of insects, worms, small fish, grass seeds, and aquatic plants just to name a few. The IUCN lists them as least concern with the population trend currently unknown.
