These small to medium sized migrant egrets can be found throughout the Philippines. They are notable for having black legs contrasted with yellow feet. They are found in a variety of wetland habitats from freshwater marshes to tidal flats. They stir their feet in water to flush out their prey which includes fish, insects, and crustaceans. The IUCN lists them as least concern with what appears as an increase in their population trend.
