These medium-sized kingfishers are the most common species of kingfisher found throughout the Philippines. They are found in a great variety of habitats from mangroves to urban gardens. They have a diverse diet consisting of prey such as fish, lizards, crustaceans, and insects. The IUCN lists them as least concern however there appears to be decrease in the population trend.
