Brown Shrike (Lanius cristatus)

These medium-sized birds are found throughout the Philippines in a great variety of habitats such as forests, parks, and cities. They are well known for their habit of impaling their prey, ranging from insects to other small animals, onto spikes such as thorns or barbed wire. They are characterized as being territorial and aggressive towards other birds. The IUCN lists them as least concern however there appears to be decrease in the population trend.
